Dr. Andrae Marak has nearly 20 years of experience, most notably in the fields of higher education administration, consultation, and career coaching, as well as in working with K-12 schools, community organizations, government agencies, and local governments.

Dr. Marak has previously served as dean, division chair, college dean and provost. Currently serving as a professor of history and political science at Roosevelt University in Chicago’s South Loop; a Visiting Fellow at the Armed Services Institute at Thomas University; a reviewer for the Higher Learning Commission, a board member of both the Nathan Manilow Sculpture Park and The Making History Project, a not-for-profit whose mission is to preserve Veterans’ stories, and an executive committee member of the Midwest World History Association and the World History Association.
The recipient of a Fulbright award and the author of four books and over 20 articles, he was the co-PI of two National Endowment for the Humanities Dialogues on the Experience of War grants that trained military veterans how to read poetry, literature, and primary sources and engage the public on the meanings and importance of the humanities. He has worked to promote increased civic engagement; a more global approach to understanding the world through the curriculum, student programming and external outreach; and job readiness and career success for graduating students.
As a career coach, he works with higher education faculty and staff members to take the necessary preparatory steps to transition into administrative leadership roles as well as with current administrators to successfully maximize their career goals. In addition, he assists clients with resume/CV restructuring, improved cover letter writing, and interview preparation as well as post-interview assessment. Consultations include institutional fit, LinkedIn profile creation, professional reference selection, and leadership style development.
As an academic administrator and consultant, he has focused on organizational structure/restructuring; process improvement and efficiencies; program mix and development with a special focus on the deployment of STEM and health-related programs; enrollment management maximization; implementing multiple international student recruitment and retention models, adult education and degree completion, credit for prior learning, and workforce development; campus internationalization and international student recruitment and retention; student success, engagement, belonging, and wrap around supports; Honors programs and graduate education pathways; assessment and accreditation; local, state, and federal grant acquisition and administration; and strategic planning and the development of appropriate key performance indicators.
Dr. Marak has a bachelor degree from Marquette University and a master degree from Syracuse University in Political Science and a Ph.D. in Latin American Studies with major foci in history and political science from the University of New Mexico. He is bilingual and currently resides in Chicago, Illinois.
